Just like children who learn at an amazing pace out of a natural inner sense of wonder and curiosity with no one telling them what to and not to remember.  Send them to school and pressure them to learn what has no meaning to them and they are not ready for or interested in and if they give in to the pressure they lose their natural filter and knowledge pours in like meaningless noise.  Learning becomes a bore and chore and children get dumber.
