The Nature of Human Government – Part 1 of 2

The Nature of Human Government – Part 1 of 2

TIH755 ♪ ♪ Pastor Charles Jennings>>
Welcome to Truth In History. On today’s program I would loc-,
like to talk about the nature of human government.
Human government has become the biggest substitute for God.
Many people find themselves worshipping human
government. They’re bowing down at the altar of human
government even though they would not admit it, because
human government has taken the place of personal
responsibility, of family responsibility, of church
responsibility and even business responsibility, which
were the, which are the four areas of authority under
God found in scripture. So human government, especially our
federal government has evolved into an imperial nature
that it wants to dictate every area of human life. Our
text is found in I Samuel chapter 8, and it’s a story that
we all know, and we know it real well. But I want to
review this because this is the nature of human
government. As we all know, the text, or the context for
this scripture is in ancient Israel. Samuel is still
alive and the people are asking for a king. Samuel is
old, they, they know he’s old and he had appointed his two
sons as judges after him. And his two sons were
corrupt. Samuel was a righteous man, he was a judge,
he was a priest, he was a prophet. But he had appointed
his two sons to positions of civil authority, and they
were corrupt. They walked not in the steps of their father
which automatically tells us that you cannot pass
the anointing, or you cannot pass the mantle of
someone’s anointing, whether he be a, a pastor, or an
evangelist, a prophet or whatever that man may be, he
cannot necessarily pass that on effectively to his son.
It has to be a divine calling from God. Our text, I
Samuel chapter 8, verse 1, And it came to pass, when Samuel
was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. Now
the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name
of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside
after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
Does that sound familiar to many of our politicians,
especially on the federal level? I think that rings a bell
with every one that is listening to my voice right
today. These two sons, they turned aside after money. Money,
money, money, Paul said that the love of money is the
root of all evil and it has corrupted government on all
levels, federal, state, city, county. It has corrupted
men, because men go up to the government seat and they
make these promises that I’m going to do the people
fairly and right and so forth. But what is the
corrupting element? It is money. They go up there a poor man and
come back a multi-millionaire in some cases.
They turned aside after lucre and they took bribes. That
hardly needs a comment because so many government
leaders have taken bribes in so many different ways, not just
outright gift of money, but trips and gifts of, of
things, and they perverted judgment. Then all the elders of
Israel gathered themselves together, and came to
Samuel unto Ramah, And said unto him, Behold, thou art
old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a
king to judge us like all the nations. Israel at this time
was ruled by the judges which was basically a theocracy.
They were God’s appointed anointed chosen
people, and the Lord sent them judges to rule over them. And it
was a theocracy, theo meaning God, ocracy meaning
government, government by God. But now the people see the
fallacy in these two boys, they see the corruption
and they say, well why don’t we have a king like all
the other nations round about us? But the other nations
were not God’s instruments in the earth. Verse
number 6, But the thing displeased Samuel, when they
said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto
the LORD. Verse number 7, And the LORD said unto
Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they
say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they
have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
Jesus Christ has rightfully bein-, been presented
as our Saviour, our personal Saviour, and as our
priest, our high priest to make intercession for the
ungodly, that’s us, but He is also a prophet. His Word goes
forth from His mouth, His Law is His Word. And then He is
king, so He has both religious and civil authority.
Jesus Christ has civil authority in the affairs of
Israel nations. Now we have started out, this country, the
United States of America started out as a Christian
nation. The pilgrims came over, the, the Puritans, many
others, and they came with a Christian consensus. And they
brought the Bible, and they came from all parts of
northwestern Europe, the British Isles and Scandinavia.
And they brought the Bible and they built a nation.
But corrupt politicians starting way back in our
history, corrupt politicians, you know, there’s been these
political machines, Tammany Hall was one, many others, where
men would scheme together for political control
over an area, a city and the United States government
itself. And therefore we have developed into political
parties, political parties and they rival one with another.
There’s been a lot of political parties that have come
and gone, the Tories, the Whigs, the party concerning
Prohibition Party, the Constitutional Party, et cetera.
But now we have two, two main political parties, the
Republican Party, they say is on the right, and the
Democratic Party on the left. They’re like the two sons
of Samuel. They’re like the two sons of Samuel in their
operation or in their basic nature, taking bribes,
going after money, power and perverting justice, or
judgment. I compare our political parties to a railroad.
There’s two rails on a railroad, two rails, the track
has to have two rails. So you have this big steam engine,
or diesel locomotive going down the railroad track.
It’s impossible for this big machine, this big diesel
locomotive to operate on one rail. It has to have two
rails, one left, one right, and also this big diesel
locomotive is the political structure of the United States.
And it needs the polarity of two different
parties to operate. They’re opposed to one another, but yet
sometimes I wonder if they are just two different
groups of the same crime family, because of the
corruption that is in our government, regardless of who’s
voted in. We now have a new President, he’s a, he’s a
Republican. I’m, I’m glad that the Republican was,
candidate was voted in as opposed to the Democratic, but
the machine, it’s this locomotive that is still intact
going down these two rails, one called Republican and
the other one Democratic. And Samuel tells the
people, you have asked for this request to have a king
to rule over you like all the other nations. And
Samuel says, I want to tell you the nature of human
government. We continue in our text. According to all the
works, this is verse 8, I Samuel 8. According to all the
works, which they have done since the day that I
brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith
they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they
also unto thee. Now therefore hearken unto their
voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and show
them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. And
Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the
people that asked of him a king. And then beginning in
verse 11 he begins to reveal the nature of human government.
And he said, This will be the nature, or the manner of
the king that shall reign over you: He will take
your sons, and appoint them for hisself, for himself, for
his chariots, to be his horsemen; and some shall run
before his chariots. In other words, it looks as though
that government, under Saul, will be the biggest
employer in the land. Now does that also ring a bell with us,
the United States Government is the largest
employer in our country? If it’s not the largest, it ranks
right up there among the top three. He’s going to take
your sons to be his horsemen and to be his chariot
drivers. Verse 12, And he will appoint him captains over
thousands, captains over fifties; and will set them to
ear his ground, which means to plow his ground, and to
reap his harvest, and to make, make his instruments of
war, and instruments of his chariots. Now what about
this plowing of the ground and to reaping of the harvest?
Saul will become involved in agriculture. Our government,
our government is involved in agriculture. It’s
involved in war making, and war making material,
captains over thousands, captains over fifties. Also
verse number 13, And he will take your daughters to be
confectionaries, making drugs, making perfumes, getting
involved in commerce, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. How did
Saul bring all this about? Israel never had all this
before. That was left up to the individuals, and maybe
left up to the tribal leaders, you know, the different
Israel tribes. But now at the very height of government
in ancient Israel, Saul will dictate, he and his
henchmen will dictate the army, in agriculture, commerce, in
food production because the daughters are going to be cooks
and bakers. Verse 14, And he will take your fields,
and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best
of them, and give them to his servants. In other words,
government will consume the product of the people.
Government will consume the produce that the common people
produce. Government consumes it. Also it says in
verse number 15, And he will take the tenth of your
seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to
his servants. It says here that Saul only took the
tenth. And do you know what the tax rate is, in America? If
you added up all the taxes, comes under different
names, you know fees and tags and, and tariffs, oh, oh
everything, sales tax, it’s still a tax, income tax,
it’s way up there, over forty percent of your income.
That’s the nature of corrupt human government. Verse
16, And he will take your menservants, and your
maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your
asses, and put them to his work. The largest employer in
the country, the United States Government, the largest
employer in ancient Israel under the Saulish
government was Saul and all his different departments by which
he regulated, ruled and controlled the people. He will
take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his
servants. In other words, the people become the slave to the
state, statism, statism. Verse number 18, you know even
today our government puts women in the military. Is that
God’s will? It wasn’t the pattern in the Old Testament.
God sent men out to war. Now there’s this big scandal in
the marines concerning nudity and all these pictures
being put on different websites concerning, exposing
the female, a lot of the female marines. That’s just a
by-product of disobeying God’s command, just a by-product
of disobeying the laws of God. You see, this Book, this
Old Testament is a pattern for us to, to rule and
control our people, our nation, to govern our country.
But we have departed from it. Well, verse 18, And ye shall
cry out in that day because of your king which ye
shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in
that day. Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice
of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a
king to rule over us; That we also may be like all the
nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before
us, and fight our battles. The English historian,
Lord Acton, he was a Cambridge professor, he died in
1902, but this is what he said, all power seems to
corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I’m going
to repeat that. All power tends to corrupt and absolute
power corrupts absolutely, Lord Acton. He hit the nail on
the head. This is the nature of human government. We
need Divine government. We need to get back to the laws
of our God. In this ministry we have a magazine that
we would like to send to you if you have never
received a copy of our magazine. It’s, it’s absolutely
free. And I, and I know hundreds and thousands of you
have already ordered this magazine but if, if you’re
somewhat new to this ministry and would, and would like a
copy, we’ll put you on our list and we will send you a

I would like to encourage you to order this book
that I’ve put together. It’s entitled, The Book of
Revelation from an Israelite and Historicist Interpretation.
We have reduced the price of this book to make it
available for everyone and this book is most unique because
this book is written from a historicist’s
interpretation, not a Preterist, not a futurist dispensational
interpretation. And we explain the difference of the
Preterist, historical and the futurist interpretation,
plus there’s several fold-out charts. You can’t see
them, but there’s, there’s about eight or so
fold-out charts. It’s an unusual book. It will be a real
help to your understanding of not only the
book of Revelation, but also, it will be a help to
understand that God controls human history. And when you
order this book, and if you have never received our five
brochures absolutely free, we will send these to you also.
If you have not received these, maybe some of you have
received them in the past. And this, these are the titles,
Are the Jews really the Israel of the Bible? That’s a,
that’s a shocker. The God in Covenant, the God and People
of Two Covenants. Number three, The Six-pointed star, A
Symbol of Idolatrous Worship and Medieval Mysticism.
Why Christians have those stars in their church is
beyond me. Why Don’t you Believe What the Prophets Have
Told You? And Who Were the Galatians? It identifies who
Paul wrote to, when he wrote his letter to the Galatian
Church. What is the cure for this corrupt human
government? I want to read you a quote from John Armstrong.
He lived from 1758 to 1843. He was a congressman, a
United States Senator, a diplomat and a general. And this
is what he said, quote, Nor is this spiritual and moral
disease to be healed by a better education. A few
external transit thoughts. It requires the hand of the Great
Physician, the Lord Jesus Christ. By His Holy Spirit and
belief of the truth renewing the state of the mind
and disposition of the heart, unquote, John Armstrong,
one of our congressmen of the past. May the Lord bless
each one of you as you hear these words and cry out to
God, Lord we don’t need another human king. We need
Jesus Christ to come and possess His kingdom and sit upon
the throne of His father, David, as was promised
by the angel to Mary. Because Jesus Christ is coming
back and He’s going to sit and reign in justice and
mercy and equity and fairness. God bless you. ♪ ♪ Narrator>>For any material
